My mother wants me to run her a warm bath with epson salt (the cure for everything) and I was wondering if this really helped witth hemorrhoids. Also if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

No, a hemorrhoid is a bunch of blood vessels popped out, warm water would increase the circulation to the area causing more blood to be there.

anusol and witch hazel (that is a old home remedy but still works well for most people).

This is called a "sitz bath" and is supposed to help reduce external hemorrhoids.

More helpful are the OTC medications like Preparation H and its competitors.

Even more helpful are changes in diet and activity to promote digestive, ah, ease, so there’s no straining. (I tried not to be gross, or mention Elvis.)

If none of those things works enough, she’d be a candidate for the surgery, which solves the problem, period.

It helps reduce the swelling. Straining to have BM’S which is usually caused by constipation, & sitting for long periods can cause hemorrhoids to be worse. There are OTC suppositories that help such as Anusol or Preparation H as well as others. If she has constipation on a regular basis eating foods high in fiber helps to decrease this problem. Water is a must because soft drinks don’t absorb into the colon hence the increased constipation. I don’t know that I would use epson salt because you don’t want to cause any problems with your urinary tract. Usually just warm water alone helps this problem. A good stool softener that is also a laxative is milk of magnesia because it doesn’t cramp your colon like so many other laxatives do. Hope this helps.
